This Earth Day, April 22nd 2025, we’re celebrating a powerful theme: "Our Power, Our Planet." It’s a rallying call for children, families, and communities around the globe to unite for one of the most important missions of our time—transitioning to renewable energy and clean electricity. The goal? To triple clean energy by 2030!
Here at Edx Education, we believe in inspiring the next generation of little engineers, eco-advocates, and problem-solvers through play-based learning. After all, today’s curious minds are tomorrow’s inventors—and what better way to explore our planet and the power of renewable energy than through hands-on, imaginative play?
So parents, caregivers, and educators—this Earth Day, we invite you to turn your living rooms, classrooms, and gardens into mini eco-labs with a sprinkle of creativity and a dash of Edx magic!
Build a Better Planet—One Toy at a Time
Ask the Big Questions
Start Earth Day with a conversation. Gather your children and ask them:
- “What do you think powers our homes, schools, and cars?”
- “How can we use the sun, wind, or water to create energy?”
- “Can we invent a machine that runs without hurting the planet?”
Let their imaginations go wild! Children love coming up with bold ideas—and with a few construction toys in hand, those ideas can come to life.
Play-Based Activities to Celebrate Earth Day
1. Build a Wind Turbine with MyGears®
Challenge your children to create a mini wind turbine using the Edx Education MyGears® set. With rotating gears, axles, and base plates, they can experiment with designing blades that spin in the wind (hello, fan or hairdryer!). Talk about how wind power works and where wind farms exist in the UK.
Bonus idea: Make it a race—who can build the tallest (and sturdiest) turbine?
2. Create Solar Farms with Rainbow Pebbles®
Lay out a scene with Rainbow Pebbles®, using yellow, orange, and red pebbles to represent solar panels. Have your children build neat rows of “solar cells” in a field or on a cardboard rooftop. You can talk about how solar panels turn sunlight into electricity, just like plants do during photosynthesis!
This is a great opportunity to discuss how solar energy can help reduce pollution.
3. Design a Green City with Linking Cubes
Use Linking Cubes to design eco-friendly cities. Build electric buses, rooftop gardens, recycling centres, or even bike paths! Encourage your little ones to create homes that use renewable energy. What does an Earth-friendly neighbourhood look like to them? Let them be the urban planners of the future!
Play, Learn & Create… Sustainably!
Every activity is a chance to build environmental values through play. Whether it’s sorting recycling, learning how composting works, or switching off lights to save power—children learn best through real-world play that has meaning.
And don’t forget to check out the latest episode of our podcast, Play, Learn & Create with Edx Education, where we explore playful ways to teach children about the environment, resilience, and sustainability.
Earth Day Every Day
Earth Day isn’t just a one-off event—it’s a wonderful moment to start lifelong habits. Play-based learning helps children understand that they have the power to protect the planet, starting with small choices and big imaginations.
Let’s raise earth-conscious kids who see problems and want to build the solutions. With tools like Rainbow Pebbles, Linking Cubes, and MyGears®, they’re not just playing—they’re designing a better future.
So this Earth Day, ask your children: 🔧 “What would YOU invent to help the Earth?”
Then… hand them the toys, and let their ideas take shape.
